Never in my life had I felt so threatened by homophobia until today.
It's utterly disappointing when someone who's supposed to be on your side suddenly turns against you.
'Please do not comment about my sexuality in public in future.'
I so wanted to send her this message but after a second thought, I didn't. I knew it wouldn't help and would only cause our faltering friendship to crumble.
On another occasion, someone said this to me. ' See that effeminate guy? He'll soon become gay. That's how homosexuality occurs. First, you turn sissy. And as time passes by, you sort of metamorphose into a gay.'
I stared at him in incredulity. Those were the words which came from a 4th-year med student. And he wasn't aware that he's making that statement to a guy who's been gay for more than a decade.
For some stupid reason, I've been trying to give a hint to people around me that I'm gay. Yeah, I know it's idiotic. And I'll stop doing this from tomorrow onwards.
It hurts to realize that all I've got is myself. I promise I'll work harder. I've gotta be strong and resilient. I want to be formidable. I want to be outstanding and successful in life as this is one of the very few ways I can feel good about myself. And may the offspring of all the homophobic morons out there be gay so that the latter will understand how sickening homophobia can be some day.
hhmm..at least you'll have something to motivate you to success in your life..
ReplyDeletewell..at least you should be glad that you knew the true form of that person, right??
from now on, just treat that person as hi-bye friend lo..just because that person haven't been through what we had been through, and that's why that person will put such a comment on you
"It hurts to realize that all I've got is myself"- from what you had written..
-> YOU ARE SO WRONG..you got friends..at least if not str8 friends, you still got p frens, isn't it?? and that's the reasons you write in your blog to get support from us....
cheer up...the sun will shine for a better tomoro!!!! :)
hugz! you're very well going through the same phases all of us have gone through in finding ourselves amidst a sea of ignorants and bigots. but you knw what, you have the right attitude and on the right track.
ReplyDeleteI also same like you, I give every hints to them that im gay but not too obviously. I think some of them know, the half think im straight lo....
ReplyDeleteMostly i hang out wt girls rather than boys. If Boys to boys conversion, im stuck, sitting there silently. But girls can gossip abit la.....
All i can say is embrace yourself who you really are and outshine those people who look down because look different from them....XD
While it'understandable that some peeps are eager to shout out to the world that they are gay, it gets frustrating when they also expect , wanna force and perhaps expose others to do it.
ReplyDeleteI guess what I'm trying to say is that different peeps hv different roles and expectations. As for me, i alwiz believed in "less news, less drama and less obstacles".
Wish you well. ^_^

I don't mind friends mentioning my sexuality quite openly, but I don't like it when people use "it" just to spice up a conversation or anything like that.
ReplyDeleteMaybe should just be selective in coming out....but the nice part of letting people know is no longer having to pretend of course.
Good luck!
Know all your stuffs, be better than them in the future and you can be bitchy to them. Ultimate come back.
ReplyDeletehahahahaha....i dont think you need to make any statement abt being gay...it is a personal liking, very much like I like beef, or I like Haagen Daazzzzzzzzzzz......hahahha...some ppl like chocolate, some vanilla...if ppl cant deal with it,too bad....they are the dinosaurs of this century hahhah :)
ReplyDeleteDoctors can be idiots too. Hehe.
ReplyDeleteJust reveal it to selected people with higher EQ.
hahaha what a curse on you've put on them...well this is a huge reason why we don't come out because of the reactions we receive, do not be too bothered with people like that, there will always exist people who are ignorant and only see stereotypes, but hopefully you can concentrate on the more understanding people around you =)
ReplyDeleteIf your friend does something like that to you, I don't suppose she's a very good friend. Plain stupid or insensitive is no excuse.
ReplyDelete4th year med student said that? I thought u guys got learn about homosexuality le ... but I suppose some textbook ain't gonna change some people's beliefs.
Anyway, hugs!fainac
Hmm... Now I know... Silencer is gay huh... hahaha... Stopped playing dota ady.
ReplyDeleteI have homophobic frens too. Some of them are a pain in the butt. I guess it depends on their level of homophobia. 1 of my fren in particular kept arguing that I am confused and made a wrong decision and that I will regret it later. I asked him "Can you see my future?"
I have come out to a huge number of frens and to my surprise, they accepted it rather well. Most of them got a shock at 1st but soon came to their senses.
I do believe that by being who I really am, I would be happy. Frens can come and go. But true frens would understand and support us. Cheese!
Give your friends time. You can't expect them all to accept you that easily. Some of them take a while to get around.
ReplyDelete..."And may the offspring of all the homophobic morons out there be gay so that the latter will understand how sickening homophobia can be some day.."
ReplyDeleteyeah..i second that!
